Imposter Syndrome is Loud but confidence isn’t the answer

I waited for months and years before I ever made my first post on LinkedIn.

I knew I wanted to share mindfulness based videos to inspire women and others in leadership. But that decision took way too long. Why?

I kept waiting to feel ready.

I kept waiting for the perfect studio, the perfect setup, the perfect production.

I kept fearing people would judge me.

But when I finally posted the first video, it wasn’t perfect. It was just done. And then came more acclaim, better business opportunities, awards, speaking engagements and more.

Imposter syndrome is loud but I have learned that more confidence isn’t the answer.

Building more self trust is.

Because confidence is a feeling. Self-trust is a practice.

You don’t wait for it. You build it – moment by moment.

Here are 8 shifts I’ve seen transform how women (and others) lead from within:

1/ The Evidence Principle

Your brain is collecting evidence

But for the wrong case

The Self-Trust Shift: Start a ‘Trust Treasury’:

• Document weekly wins, impact moments, and overcome challenges

• Build evidence for your capabilities and readiness

2/ The Permission Paradox

Waiting for permission keeps you small

Authority comes from within first

The Self-Trust Shift:

• Replace “When I’m ready… with “I choose to…”

• Trust yourself to figure it out as you move forward

3/ The Competence Loop

Perfectionism is fear in a fancy suit

Growth happens in the gap

The Self-Trust Shift:

• Track your ‘Growth Rate’ not your ‘Gap Rate’

• Ask: What did I learn?

Not: What did I lack?

4/ The Mirror Method

Your self-talk creates your reality

Your internal narrative shapes external results

The Self-Trust Shift:

• Practice Affirmative Self-Talk: “I can do this!”

• As well as Interrogative Self-Talk – “How can I do this?”

5/ The Decision Protocol

Second-guessing is not strategy

Clear decisions build trust muscles

The Self-Trust Shift:

• Make decisions in pencil, not permanent marker

• You can always adjust the course, but you must first chart it.

6/ Your Doubt Lens

Your doubt helps no one

Your courage serves everyone

The Self-Trust Shift:

• Ask: “Who needs me to show up fully today?”

• Your growth inspires possibilities in others.

7/ The Wisdom Window

Experience isn’t just time served

It’s lessons learned.

The Self-Trust Shift:

• Start a “Leadership Learnings” journal

• Your wisdom is the strongest foundation for inner confidence

8/ The Legacy Loop

You’re creating your story daily…

Make it one worth telling.

The Self-Trust Shift:

• Write your future biography’s best chapter

• Ask: How would the leader you’re becoming act today?

So, which one of these practices are you going to adopt to build greater self trust?

The Conscious Choice Launches in Singapore

We’re expanding the global conversation on self-leadership, clarity, and leading with intention with The Conscious Choice Book.

The most powerful leaders don’t just ask: What should I do?

They ask: What do I want to stand for?

What would the leader I’m becoming choose right now?

🌀 That’s the essence of The Conscious Choice –

And I’m deeply honored to now bring this message to Singapore.
